Every day, countless people use scientific and technical works for commercial purposes. By law, the authors of these works deserve fair compensation. Unfortunately, it is impossible for authors to track every single use of their work and claim their rightful payment.

That is where collecting societies like KOPIPOL come in! We bridge the gap between creators and users, ensuring authors receive the fees they deserve. Founded by representatives of the science community, KOPIPOL is legally authorized to grant licences for using scientific and technical works, collect fees from the market, and distribute these fees directly to authors or their legal successors.

In the context of copyright law, repartitions are compensation for the legally permitted reproduction of works by individuals for so-called permitted personal use. These funds come from manufacturers, importers, and owners of businesses that offer reproduction services (photocopying, scanning, printing, etc.) Who receives repartitions? Authors whose works were published by the most frequently copied publishing houses in a given year. The list of publishing houses is created on the basis of data from a statistical survey conducted by the Market and Public Opinion Research Institute CEM in Krakow.

Authors who published their works in the years 2017-2022 in publications of the most frequently copied publishing houses are entitled to receive payment under the individual repartition scheme.

The list of publications is based on statistical surveys commissioned by KOPIPOL and conducted by CEM Market and Public Opinion Research Institute.

Distributions and payments are made no later than 9 months after the year in which fees were collected.

As an author, be aware that commercial use of your work requires proper compensation. KOPIPOL helps protect your copyright by:

• Managing your rights: Entering into a collective rights management agreement allows KOPIPOL to control how your work is used and issue licences on your behalf.

• Taking legal action: KOPIPOL will pursue legal action against copyright infringement on your behalf and cover the associated costs.

• Preserving your rights: Entering into an agreement does not affect your personal rights as the author. You can terminate the agreement or limit its scope at any time.

KOPIPOL is the only Polish collecting society that relies solely on statistical surveys conducted by the independent CEM Market and Public Opinion Research Institute Sp. z o.o. to distribute collected fees.
